Abstract

The article discusses a recent study on child and adolescent mental health, focusing on the relationship between attachment and cognitive capabilities in both children and parents. Researchers from the Research Institute of Child Development and Education explored how attachment behaviors and representations are influenced by IQ, using data from the Leiden Consortium on Individual Development study, which involved 992 participants. The study found that while phenotypically measured IQ in one cohort predicted attachment, neither parental nor child polygenic scores of IQ showed a significant predictive relationship with attachment representations. The research concluded that there is insufficient evidence to support the idea that IQ plays a role in the intergenerational transmission of attachment. [Extracted from the article]
