Abstract

A recent study conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, has found that late-onset GM2 gangliosidosis (LOGG) subtypes, including late-onset Tay-Sachs (LOTS) and Sandhoff disease (LOSD), have distinct clinical and imaging features. The study examined 170 LOGG patients and compared the two subtypes, finding that LOTS patients had an earlier age of onset, more commonly experienced psychosis/bipolar symptoms, and had more severe cerebellar atrophy compared to LOSD patients. These findings suggest significant differences in symptomatology, disease course, and imaging findings between LOTS and LOSD. The study was supported by the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke. [Extracted from the article]
