Abstract

This article focuses on the introduction of the ENFit™ standard—a global ISO 80369-3 compliant connector system for enteral administration—into the manufacturing process of oral and enteral chemotherapy syringes for pediatric patients, alongside establishing a retrocession circuit to dispense these preparations to outpatients. The ENFit™ devices replaced the previously used Luer-Lock syringes, which were unsuitable for enteral routes and posed risks of administration errors. A multidisciplinary approach led to the selection and validation of appropriate ENFit™ sterile medical devices, the creation of educational materials promoting proper use, and the implementation of a legally compliant retrocession circuit that demonstrated potential economic benefits. Satisfaction surveys among caregivers and families indicated overall positive reception, though some areas for improvement, such as scheduling and informational content, were identified.
