Abstract
This article focuses on research examining the relationship between sexual abuse (SA) and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB) among Chinese adolescents, highlighting the mediating roles of negative life events (NLE) and internet addiction (IA). Using data from a large cross-sectional survey of 10,664 adolescents across 16 Chinese provinces, the study found that SA is directly associated with increased STB and indirectly influences STB through NLE and IA, both separately and sequentially. The findings suggest a complex chain mediation mechanism linking early adversity to suicidal outcomes, offering new insights for comprehensive suicide prevention strategies that address trauma, cognitive coping, and online behavior guidance.
