Abstract
This article examines the relationship between cognitive abilities and intra-individual variability (IIV) in performance on the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT). In a sample of 205 young adults, higher full-scale IQ (FSIQ) scores were associated with better PASAT total scores and lower performance variability, indicating more consistent task performance. PASAT variability was also negatively related to Animal Naming scores but showed no significant correlation with other executive functioning measures or Trail-Making Test performance. These findings suggest that greater intellectual ability corresponds with more stable PASAT performance, contrasting with prior research linking higher cognitive ability to increased variability, and highlight the need for further investigation into these relationships.
