Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments in science and policy across multiple fields. Johnson & Johnson has agreed to allow generic versions of its tuberculosis drug bedaquiline in 44 low- and middle-income countries to improve access and affordability. Research highlights challenges faced by nonnative English speakers in scientific communication, including longer reading times and higher manuscript rejection rates. A study of U.S. women science instructors found they are more likely than men to disclose stigmatized personal identities to students, potentially fostering inclusivity. Additional topics include Benjamin Franklin's early anti-counterfeiting techniques revealed through imaging, proposed cuts to U.S. federal research budgets, an ancient genetic mutation enabling insect resistance to plant toxins, the European Parliament's approval of a nature restoration law, and identification of an immune gene variant linked to asymptomatic COVID-19 infections.
