Abstract
The article discusses Lionello Venturi's engagement with Impressionism and the evolution of his methodological principles and political stances. It discusses his transformation from a traditional art historian to someone who examined the social values in painting and saw a connection between modern art and political freedom, particularly his anti-fascist views. It also mentions that Venturi went into exile due to his refusal to swear allegiance to the fascist regime.
