Abstract
The article focuses on Bloomington, Illinois's Social Justice Walking Tour, developed since the late 1990s to highlight local histories related to human rights issues such as immigration, labor, gender equity, and racial justice. Originating from efforts by curator Mike Matejka, the tour connects local sites—like the courthouse and the McLean County Museum of History—to broader historical movements, including African American Civil Rights, Women's Rights, and labor unions. Used by local schools and universities, the tour serves as an educational tool that fosters community connection and awareness of often overlooked local contributions to social justice. Recently digitized as an interactive website, the tour provides accessible resources for educators and students, aligning with Illinois Learning Standards that emphasize diverse historical perspectives.
