Abstract

Intercontinental Exchange Inc. has rejected a request to implement daily price limits on cocoa futures, despite a surge in prices this year. The exchange argued that such limits would hinder the ability to liquidate positions if necessary. Cocoa prices have more than doubled due to bad weather and crop disease in West Africa, which accounts for over half of global supply. While one cocoa trader supported the proposal, most participants agreed with the exchange's decision. ICE already has interval price limits in place to help control market spikes.
