Abstract
This article reviews Volume 2 of a series featuring concerted works by Camille Saint-Saëns, focusing on his Piano Concerto No. 2, Morceau de Concert, two Romances for horn and orchestra, and a substantial Cello Suite. The performances by pianist Jae Hong Park, horn player Ben Goldscheider, cellist Lionel Martin, and the Vienna Radio Symphony under Howard Griffiths are described as competent and well-executed, though somewhat restrained and lacking in intensity. The recording quality is noted as clear but slightly distant, with an honest and unembellished sound. While the program may feel somewhat uneven on its own, it is positioned as a valuable part of a larger collection showcasing Saint-Saëns’s diverse concerted repertoire. [Extracted from the article]
