Abstract
The article explores the aftermath of civil rights cases of 1883 in the U.S. Supreme Court. Topics discussed include the concerns raised regarding the African American rights under the Civil Rights Act of 1875, the opinion offered by then Supreme Court Justice Joseph P. Bradley regarding the federal enforcement of public rights, and the implications of the American Civil War for African American rights acknowledged by then Justices Samuel F. Miller and John Marshall Harlan.
