Abstract

The article "Defining Moments" from All About History highlights two significant events in American history. In February 1960, the Greensboro sit-ins began when four young Black students protested segregation by sitting at a whites-only lunch counter, sparking a wave of similar protests across the USA. In contrast, on 3 February 1959, a tragic plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, claimed the lives of musicians Buddy Holly, JP Richardson, and Ritchie Valens, leading to the event being memorialized as "The Day the Music Died." These events showcase both the power of peaceful protest and the impact of a tragic accident on American culture. [Extracted from the article]
