Abstract

This article provides a brief overview of key events that occurred during September 1944 in World War II. The Allies began the Siegfried Line campaign, facing a formidable defensive system along the western border of Germany. The Battle of Peleliu took place, where the US faced fierce resistance from the Japanese and suffered heavy casualties. Operation Market Garden failed to capture a key bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem, and the German retaliation caused a famine that impacted millions. The Third United States Army successfully attacked German forces in Nancy, France, and the first V-2 rockets were launched by the Wehrmacht. [Extracted from the article]
