Abstract

The article focuses on a model for partnership formation within a bipartite population, where individuals' utilities depend on both observed and unobserved characteristics of potential partners. It introduces an estimator for preference parameters using sample survey data on partnerships and population composition. Simulation studies based on the Survey of Income and Program Participation demonstrate that the estimator accurately recovers preference parameters that remain consistent across varying population availabilities and provides correct confidence coverage. This model addresses demographic challenges related to matching and partnership preferences.
