Abstract
The article focuses on a response by Dr. Reardon to critiques regarding his October 2022 analysis of Vice Admirals Robert Ghormley and William Halsey's leadership during the Guadalcanal campaign in World War II. Dr. Reardon acknowledges valid criticisms of Ghormley’s absence from key meetings and visits, which negatively affected Allied operations and troop morale. He clarifies that he did not intend to claim Ghormley outperformed Halsey but rather that their actions were comparable, noting similarities in their strategic decisions and challenges faced. The response emphasizes that while Ghormley has been heavily criticized by historians, such judgments may be unfair when contrasted with the praise given to Halsey.
