Abstract

The article discusses the use of the film *Hero* as a pedagogical tool for teaching Ancient Chinese history, particularly in relation to the representation of historical narratives. It emphasizes how the film, directed by Zhang Yimou, allows students to critically analyze the construction of historical narratives, exploring themes of bias, perspective, and the interplay between history and myth. By comparing *Hero* with Sima Qian's *Shiji*, students can engage with the complexities of historiography, examining how both ancient and modern storytellers shape historical understanding. The article highlights the film's visual storytelling techniques, such as color coding, which reflect the multiplicity of truths and the challenges of interpreting history.
