Abstract

The NYU College of Dentistry is addressing the oral healthcare needs of children from migrant and asylum-seeking families in New York City. These children face various challenges, including poor oral health and a high prevalence of cavities. NYU Dentistry is working to remove barriers to dental care by providing outreach events, school-based care, and follow-up care at their dental office. They have already provided dental exams and fluoride varnish to approximately 300 children and have shared oral health information with around 1,200 families. The care provided is free of cost for uninsured children, with funding from the New York City Council and a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. [Extracted from the article]
