Abstract
The article look back into the history of the end of trolley segregation in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1867. Focus is given on the role of the "News Orleans Tribune" and its founder Louis Charles Roudanez, a journalist and physician, in bringing up trolley segregation as a civil right issue. A background is provided about the codes noir, or Black codes, that governed Louisiana's people of color as well as non-Catholics. It describes the protests to streetcar segregation in April 1867.
