Abstract

The article focuses on the Monarch device, an innovative assistive technology developed by the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) and HumanWare, designed to enhance braille access for individuals with visual impairments. Launched in fall 2024, the Monarch features a multiline display with 10 lines of braille, allowing users to read and interact with tactile graphics more effectively. The device aims to provide equitable access to educational and vocational resources, enabling users to engage independently in learning and work environments. The article highlights the collaborative development process, user-centered design, and the positive impact of the Monarch on students and professionals with vision loss.
