Abstract

The article discusses about the metonymic relationship between Russian linguist Roman Jakobson's life and thought. Topics discussed include Jakobson's scholarly emphasis on the universal scientific basis of linguistics, disciplinary isolation of Slavic formalisms and structuralisms and Jakobson's model of language functions.
