Abstract
"Telemann Studies" is a collection of essays that aims to increase interest in the composer Georg Philipp Telemann, who is often overlooked outside of Germany. The book features contributions from scholars around the world, including Germany, the United States, and Japan. The essays cover a range of topics, including Telemann's use of counterpoint in his liturgical music, his connections to various cities and courts, and his late vocal works. The collection also explores Telemann's relationships with the Bach family and his extensive output of church cantatas. While the book does not cover every aspect of Telemann's career, it provides valuable insights and information that will hopefully encourage further research on Telemann outside of Germany.
