Abstract

The article focuses on the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s (AIPAC) intensified efforts to influence the 2024 U.S. elections by targeting progressive Democratic lawmakers critical of Israel, particularly in primary races. AIPAC’s super PAC, the United Democracy Project (UDP), has received significant funding from GOP donor Bernie Marcus to support centrist challengers against incumbents like Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who have advocated for Palestinian rights. Progressive groups such as Justice Democrats face challenges due to AIPAC’s substantial spending, while some Democratic leaders continue to engage with AIPAC despite its controversial stance. The article also highlights opposition from progressive Jewish organizations calling on candidates to reject AIPAC’s endorsements and contributions.
