Abstract
The article focuses on the Benin Bronzes, artworks produced by the Edo people of the Kingdom of Benin in the 16th to 19th centuries. It explores the mystery of the brass used in making these bronzes and found that early Portuguese manillas traded in the Rhineland, offering new insights into their origin. The geochemical analysis of manillas dating from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries supports this connection, shedding light on the materials used in creating the Benin Bronzes.
