Abstract

This article discusses the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp by the U.S. Army in 1945. It provides a chronology of the establishment of concentration camps by the Nazi regime and explains the different types of camps. The U.S. Army's liberation of Buchenwald exposed the horrors of Nazi atrocities to the American and Western public. General Eisenhower emphasized the need to document the atrocities and invited the press and prominent individuals to witness the camps. The goal was to ensure that the world would never forget the evil and cruelty of the Nazis. [Extracted from the article]
