Abstract
Greenpeace UK and Uplift have filed separate legal challenges in Scotland to revoke government approval for the Rosebank oil development in the North Sea. The approval was granted in September, despite the UK's net zero plans, as part of the Conservative government's efforts to boost oil and gas drilling in the declining basin. The development, which is scheduled to begin production in 2026, is expected to be one of the largest fields in the UK but would still only account for a small fraction of global daily demand. Environmental groups have been protesting against the project, citing its potential carbon emissions. Equinor and Ithaca Energy plan to invest $3.8 billion in the project, with the majority of the development costs being covered by the public through tax breaks. [Extracted from the article]
