Abstract
The article focuses on research examining the relationship between school ethnic density and mental health issues in Black, Latine, and White preadolescent children. Conducted by researchers from Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the study analyzed data from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development Study, involving 10,076 participants with a mean age of 9.9 years. Findings indicated that a higher proportion of Black students in schools was linked to fewer internalizing and thought problems, while for Latine children from immigrant families, increased Latine representation correlated with reduced thought problems. The study suggests that school ethnic density may offer protective benefits for the mental health of Black and certain Latine children. [Extracted from the article]
