Abstract
The article focuses on ten defining moments in the 100 years since composer Giacomo Puccini’s death in 1924, highlighting key events related to his operas and legacy. It covers the posthumous premiere of Turandot in 1926, the establishment of the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago in 1930, and landmark recordings and productions such as the 1938 HMV recording of La bohème and the 1964 Covent Garden Tosca featuring Maria Callas. The article also discusses the popularization of Puccini’s music through the 1990 FIFA World Cup with Luciano Pavarotti’s performance of "Nessun dorma" and the Three Tenors concert. Additionally, it addresses different completions of Turandot’s ending by Franco Alfano and Luciano Berio, including recent revivals using Alfano’s original, longer version.
