Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing and visualizing vulnerability to violent crime at micro-places in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, using the Risk Terrain Modelling approach. It incorporates both environmental elements and socio-demographic characteristics to identify risky locations, applying cluster analysis to classify and map these areas based on different environmental settings. The study highlights that visualizing combinations of crime-related factors offers a more nuanced and effective tool for risk governance compared to traditional risk maps that only indicate future crime likelihood. It also emphasizes the importance of clear communication and appropriate graphical representations to enhance collaboration among crime analysts, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
