Abstract
"The Siege of Londonderry" by Piers Wauchope is a book that challenges the historical accounts of the famous siege. Wauchope argues that previous histories of the siege have relied on unreliable sources, such as Reverend George Walker's "True Account of the Siege of Londonderry." Wauchope provides examples of how Walker and another source, Reverend John Mackenzie, shaped their narratives to fit their own perspectives. The book also examines the actions of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Lundy, the governor of Derry, and highlights the practical steps he took to strengthen the city's defenses. Wauchope's analysis includes discussions of key figures involved in the siege, as well as chapters on the famine and fever that occurred during the siege. Overall, the book offers a revisionist perspective on the siege, filling in gaps and challenging previous narratives. [Extracted from the article]
