Abstract

The article focuses on the Canadian War Museum's acquisition of an M4A2 Sherman beach armoured recovery vehicle (BARV), a significant artifact related to Canada's D-Day history. Donated by The Tank Museum in the UK, this BARV is one of only five known to exist and will be the only Sherman BARV displayed in North America. The museum plans to undertake a detailed restoration process, which is expected to take several years, to help illustrate Canada's role in the Normandy landings and subsequent operations. The BARV played a crucial role during the D-Day landings by assisting in the movement of vehicles on the beaches and was also utilized during the Rhine River crossing in 1945.
