Abstract
This article discusses the author's discovery and exploration of straw as a material for embroidery. The author explains that straw has been used in embroidery for centuries but many of these skills have been forgotten. The author was awarded a scholarship to study straw-plaiting and embroidery techniques, which included mentoring and training with experts in the field. The author's interest lies in the transformative process of spinning threads and creating embroidery materials from wheat and rye straw, and they aim to keep these historical skills alive for future generations. The author sees their work as a way to question our relationship to materials and the natural world. [Extracted from the article]
