Abstract

This article focuses on a recording featuring the Asasello Quartet, the E-MEX Ensemble, and soprano Christiane Oelze performing works arranged or composed by Maria Herz and others. The disc opens with Herz’s string quartet arrangement of Bach’s Chaconne from the D-minor Partita, noted for its creative and intense interpretation. The program also includes chamber reductions of Stefan George songs by Christoph Maria Wagner and two lesser-known quartet works praised for their quality and craftsmanship. The recording concludes with Herz’s "Rundfunkmusik für 8 Instrumente," a light-hearted piece predating a similar work by Silvestre Revueltas.
