Abstract

This article focuses on a November 2024 recording featuring Giacomo Carissimi’s oratorio *Jonas*, performed by the Bavarian Radio Choir and Il Giardino Armonico under Giovanni Antonini. The oratorio, likely composed in the 1650s, narrates the biblical story of Jonah with vivid musical scenes and emotional depth, highlighted by a tenor solo prayer inside the whale. The program also includes Claudio Monteverdi’s *Lamento d'Arianna* from his 1614 madrigal book and two multi-part sacred works by Orlando di Lasso: *Lagrime di San Pietro* and *Prophetiae Sibyllarum*. The performances are noted for their skilled ensemble cohesion and expressive interpretation, with accompanying texts and translations provided, though English texts for Monteverdi and Lasso are only accessible via QR code linking to German translations.
