Abstract

The article focuses on the 2019 documentary *Andrej Tarkovsky: A Cinema Prayer*, directed by Andrei Andreevich Tarkovsky, which explores the poetic and philosophical depth of Andrei Arsenevich Tarkovsky’s films through a combination of key film scenes and rare archival materials. The documentary highlights Tarkovsky Sr’s recurring themes such as childhood, nature, faith, and artistic freedom, while also incorporating the poetry of his father, Arseny Tarkovsky, to illustrate the interconnection between their artistic expressions. It traces Tarkovsky Sr’s life and career from the Soviet Union to his later years in Italy, emphasizing his struggle for creative autonomy and his profound bond with Russian tradition. The film concludes by reflecting on Tarkovsky Sr’s personal and familial history, offering an intimate portrayal of the director’s legacy.
