Abstract

A recent study published in The Astrophysical Journal reveals a new phenomenon where a planet spirals into its host star, observed for the first time by astronomers using NASA's JWST spacecraft. The star, located 12,000 light-years away in the Milky Way Galaxy, initially appeared to have absorbed a planet during its red giant stage, but further analysis suggests the planet orbited the star closely before merging with it. This act of celestial infanticide challenges previous assumptions about how stars consume planets and raises questions about the frequency of such events in the universe.
