Abstract
The article argues that in Dolopathos (De rege et septem sapientibus),Johannes of Alta Silva presents Sicily, Italy, not as an island but as an expansive land-based kingdom centred on Palermo and extending toward Rome. It suggests that this fictional geography reflects twelfth-century Norman and papal propaganda surrounding Roger II and the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, which promoted the idea of an ancient Sicilian monarchy with Palermo, Italy as its capital.
