Abstract

Rocket Mortgage is challenging discrimination allegations made by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regarding lowball appraisals that allegedly discriminated against a Black borrower. The company argues that federal law prohibits lenders from influencing appraisals and is seeking to dismiss the accusations. HUD and the Department of Justice have taken legal action against Rocket Mortgage and appraisal companies, claiming they undervalued a property based on the homeowner's race. Rocket Mortgage asserts that it had no authority to correct the appraisal and should not be held liable for the actions of the appraisal firms. [Extracted from the article]
