Abstract

The article focuses on Operation Urgent Fury, the largest US military operation since the Vietnam War, which commenced on October 25, 1983, to eliminate communist influence in Grenada and rescue American medical students. Authorized by President Ronald Reagan, the operation involved over 5,000 US troops, including the Marine Corps and Army special forces, who faced approximately 1,500 Grenadian troops and Cuban military personnel. The campaign successfully rescued 599 medical students and restored a democratic government, although it highlighted shortcomings in American military operations. The operation concluded with significant casualties on both sides and led to subsequent elections in Grenada in December 1984. [Extracted from the article]
