Abstract

The article focuses on the cultural and literary impact of ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI, which generates text in various styles and genres based on a vast dataset of mostly English-language material. ChatGPT's ability to produce creative writing has raised concerns among authors, educators, and literary editors about the potential displacement of human writers and the ethical challenges posed by AI-generated content, including embedded biases from predominantly older, white male-authored public domain texts. Responses from the literary community vary, with some publishers banning AI-generated submissions while others advocate for exploring AI as a collaborative creative tool. The article also highlights ongoing debates about AI's role in education, publishing, and artistic practice amid its evolving technological and cultural implications.
