Tesla to Lose EV Sales Crown to BYD, Bloomberg Intelligence Says.

Abstract

According to Bloomberg Intelligence, BYD Co. is projected to surpass Tesla Inc. in annual electric vehicle (EV) sales this year due to increased demand in China. This is a change from earlier predictions that Tesla would maintain its lead over BYD until the end of the decade. However, the report suggests that BYD's success may be short-lived due to punitive tariffs imposed by the US and European Union, which limit the Chinese automaker's growth opportunities in those markets. The report also highlights that slowing demand for EVs may benefit legacy automakers that produce internal combustion engines, such as General Motors, Volkswagen, and Ford. Tesla recently reported disappointing profits and warned of lower growth rates in the future. Additionally, Porsche has revised its goal for the percentage of new-vehicle sales accounted for by battery-powered cars by 2030.
