Abstract
The UN Security Council has extended the authorization of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) until June 30th, 2024. Member states have been authorized to deploy up to 14,626 uniformed personnel during this period. Somalia's government plans to train 40,000 police officers to take over security responsibilities as ATMIS prepares to leave. In other news, clan clashes in the Puntland region resulted in three deaths and five injuries, while a village in the disputed Sool, Sanaag, Ayn regions was seized by militia from the SSC-Khatumo administration after clashes with Somaliland soldiers. Additionally, the Somali Defence Ministry is investigating a shooting involving soldiers from the Danab unit and Hirshabelle security forces. [Extracted from the article]
