Abstract

This article focuses on a newly launched clinical trial (NCT07531082) investigating the effects of a salutogenic strength-based, robot-assisted intervention on depressive symptoms and sense of coherence (SOC) among family caregivers of persons with dementia (PwD). The intervention uses an AI-powered social robot designed to enhance caregivers’ inner strength and psychological health based on Antonovsky's theory of salutogenesis. The randomized controlled trial will enroll 148 family caregivers, comparing the robot-assisted intervention group with a control group receiving dementia care reading materials, assessing outcomes such as depression, SOC, caregiving burden, coping, and self-efficacy over a 3-month follow-up. The study aims to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of integrating robotic technology into supportive care for informal dementia caregivers, potentially offering a novel approach to strengthen this population’s emotional well-being.
