Abstract
This review essay (written prior to the death of Alex Salmond) considers the historic parallels between two 'great men' of nineteenth Century Irish Nationalism – Charles Stewart Parnell and John Dillon – and more recent developments in Scotland's politics. It does so in light of a recent book by Paul Bew (2023) on Ancestral Voices in Irish Politics – Judging Dillon and Parnell and asks just who is in a position to judge what. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
