Abstract

Belgian-born doctor Reginald Koettlitz and his wife Marie Louise settled in Darlington, South Africa, after his expeditions to Antarctica, Africa, and Brazil. Koettlitz played a key role in provisioning the Discovery Expedition to Antarctica, where he advised on preventing scurvy and conducted scientific work. Despite his contributions to exploration, Koettlitz faced personal tragedies and passed away in 1916, along with his wife, in Cradock, South Africa. Their burial in the Cradock cemetery marked the end of a remarkable life of adventure and service. [Extracted from the article]
