Abstract
Operation Dragoon was an amphibious assault launched by the Allied forces on the southern coast of France in August 1944. The operation was agreed upon during a meeting between Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin in Tehran in 1943. German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel was tasked with fortifying the area, but there were few coastal defenses to discourage an Allied landing. The Allies conducted air strikes and naval bombardments to weaken the German forces before the amphibious landing. The landing was largely unopposed, and the Allied troops, supported by the French Resistance, successfully pushed the Germans back and captured key French sites. The operation marked a significant turning point in the war. [Extracted from the article]
