Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between media, ethnicity, and electoral conflicts in Kenya. It highlights how ethnicity has been used by politicians to gain power and create hierarchies of opportunities and deprivation. The media, instead of playing a watchdog role, often churn out propaganda for politicians due to media ownership and ethnic influences. The book by Jacinta Mwende Maweu explores this issue in depth, examining the history of electoral conflicts, the political economy of the media, and the influence of ethnicity on media coverage. The article suggests that a public dialogue and regulation of media and social media platforms could help prevent ethnic electoral conflicts in the future. [Extracted from the article]
