Abstract

The article reviews *Prairie Interlace: Weaving, Modernisms, and the Expanded Frame, 1960–2000*, a 2023 publication that examines textile-based art on the Canadian Prairies—Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—during the latter half of the twentieth century. The book, accompanying a multi-venue exhibition, explores how weaving and related fibre arts challenged traditional distinctions between craft and modernist art, highlighting contributions from Indigenous, settler, and immigrant artists. Organized into three thematic sections—Recovering Histories, Contextual Encounters, and Expanding the Frame—the volume addresses historical narratives, cultural and political contexts, and the evolving conceptual boundaries of textile art in the region. Richly illustrated and grounded in archival research, the work situates Prairie textile art within broader national and international modernist and postmodernist discourses.
