Abstract
This article from Architectural Review discusses the state of democracy around the world. While elections are taking place in 64 countries, democracies are facing challenges from autocratic forces and corporate lobbying. The article explores the impact of these challenges on traditional seats of power, such as parliaments, as well as the transformation of spaces for public dialogue. It also highlights the struggle for democracy in cities and nations that have regained their independence, and the role of architecture in promoting emancipation. The article emphasizes the importance of architects as citizens who can engage critically with the world and denounce anti-democratic practices. [Extracted from the article]
