Abstract
The article critically examines Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's claims regarding crime rates in Florida compared to "big progressive cities" like Chicago and Philadelphia, which he labels as "crime-ridden." It argues that DeSantis's assertions about Florida leading the nation in crime reduction and experiencing 50-year lows are based on flawed data and do not accurately reflect crime trends within the state. The analysis highlights that many of Florida's largest cities, including Tampa and Jacksonville, have seen significant increases in violent crime, contrasting with the progress made in some progressive cities. Furthermore, it challenges the notion that progressive criminal justice reforms are responsible for rising crime rates, presenting evidence that such reforms can lead to reductions in violent crime.
