Abstract

Kamala Harris has secured the support of key delegates in her bid to become the Democratic party's nominee for president. Lateefah Simon, a California superdelegate, quickly returned a form indicating her support for Harris, and similar levels of enthusiasm for Harris were found among officials in other populous states. No other candidate has announced plans to run against Harris, and she has already crossed the threshold of pledged delegates needed to secure the nomination. While some Democrats have suggested other candidates may have a better chance of defeating Donald Trump, potential rivals like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer have committed to supporting Harris.
